APPSC conducts Group-1 services exam in three stages. The Preliminary Exam will be conducted in the first stage. The Second stage is Mains Exam which will be conducted for those who qualified in Preliminary Exam. In the third stage, the Interview will be conducted for the candidates who qualified in the Mains Exam.

Last time APPSC conducted Group-1 Exam in the following pattern.
Group-1 Prelims Exam is an objective type and it contains following two papers
| Paper-I: General Studies | 120 Marks |
| Paper-II: General Aptitude | 120 Marks |
GROUP-1 MAINS EXAM (DESCRIPTIVE TYPE)
Last time APPSC conducted Group-1 Exam in the following pattern.
There are a total of 7 descriptive papers in Group-1 Mains Exam. Each paper contains 150 marks. The two qualifying papers are English and Telugu papers. Paper-1 to Paper-5 are considered for Merit Ranking.
